Empower ME is a local non profit program made up of 3 women: Maili Lafayette, Holly Lancaster and Karen Lafferty of Scarborough, ME. These women are passionate about their goal to empower people of all ages and gender to get involved, volunteer, and contribute in their communities.
I chatted with them recently about the upcoming documentary film they are hosting called the Empowerment Project at Scarborough High School. The film has screened in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges, groups, organizations and corporations around the world! They are so excited and proud to be part of this movement because it sheds a positive light on female role models who have followed their passions. They are also pleased to announce that the film will be presented on February 1st- 7 p.m at (Scarborough High School) Free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of Microsoft.
Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things
The documentary film The Empowerment Project follows the incredible journey of five female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower and inspire the next generation of strong women to pursue their career ambitions. Driving over 7,000 miles from Los Angeles to New York within 30 days, the documentary spotlights 8 positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles and industries. In celebration of the all-female focus in front of and behind the camera, the filmmakers turned the cameras on themselves, capturing their transformational journey. The film challenges the audience to ask themselves: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid to fail?”
