When we moved into our cottage on Peaks Island our budget was pretty slim for decor items.
Luckily for us we bought the cottage “as is” and it was filled with vintage pieces that I loved and could re-upholster to add a little style.
Our main priorities were to open up the space and let some light into the kitchen and living room areas. To make that happen we needed to knock down a couple walls. We re-used the wood to make some cabinets, put in a slate sink and added a few windows in the living room to get a peek of the ocean.
There goes my decor budget, right?

The one room that is stll in need of a little TLC is our bedroom. I literally found our headboard on the side of the road “free” and hauled it back to the cottage on the roof of our island car.
My thoughts have been that at some point I’d like to outfit our bedroom in a “bohemian style.”
I’ve been following Amber Lewis for a long time and really dig her “California Surf Shack” style. I found this ehow article a while back and it’s the one that I keep referring to when I think about changing our bedroom up a bit.
I love the mixture of fabrics, layered rugs and natural wood elements in this room.
Here’s Amber’s suggestions:
